About Last Night (Battle)
In the famous words of the “Stranger” immortalized in the movie “The Big Lebowski”… “Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you.”
last night, the bar sorta ate me.
I went to the Astro Across The Fader Battle less prepared than I normally am. Due in combination to lack of time, enthusiasm, and hubris. I’ve done a fair amount of battles and I still get really nervous before each of them. Many times I will sip some whisky to calm the nerves a bit. Sometime between when the first DJ went and when I did(I was the last out of 10) I had far too many sips(Two 3.5 ounce bottles to the dome).
In retrospect that was far more than neccesarry to take the edge off. Nevertheless I started my set pretty strong. About halfway thru I lost a very crucial cue point I believe I erased it by hitting the cue point on the dicer at the same time I hit the arrow which deletes the set cue. It’s a safe bet that the jack daniels didn’t help my dextarity. Thinking about it now, I know I could have reset that cue easily. Under the hot lights, and the influence of too much whisky those snap judgements that can be made in an instant are much slower. ( I guess that’s also why you’re not supposed to drive under the influence).
I also had a scrolling issue which caused me to play a track at the wrong time. I still feel like I made a solid recovery considering and I didn’t show it in my face while I finished my routine the best I could.
But as soon as I finished and the host asked me how I felt, I let everyon know how badly I fucked up and how frusterated I was. Another decision I probably would not have made if I went lighter on the sauce.
Had I executed my routine correctly would I have won? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM I don’t know. Maybe, maybe not. But the moral of the story is….easy on the happy juice dummy.
Watch the video below of the set below(without mistakes).
You can see the video of the routine at the battle as well but you have to find that yourself.
The competetors we’re all very good especially the two who advanced. One of my campers from Camp-Spinoff Dj Young Slade who is 14 battled and was fantastic as well. TCB
Thanks to Astro for putting on this excellent event and to everyone who came out and stood in that hot room for 3 hours.
To everyone who enetered last night you have my respect.
Till the next one…
